lpsmagic is a hack that shows information on low power mode screen instead of the operator logo. It displays the following data: current date, uptime of the device, amount of used RAM, system load (1, 5, 15 minutes), battery state, amount of used space on user data partition.

Harmattan PR1.2 update now available for the N950 |
|
System update PR1.2 beta has just been released for the Nokia N950 as OneClickFlashers. Changes include:
* New languages (Persian, Hebrew, Kazakh, Thai, Vietnamese)
* Software update notifications for content in Nokia Store
* Face recognition for gallery and face tags for Facebook
* Support for folders in the application view
* Mail for Exchange global address book lookup
* Mail thread support in the Email client
* Extended copy-paste support
* Media sharing with DLNA compatible devices
* Improved browser history view
* Compass support in Maps
* QtWebKit update to version 2.2
* New font taken into use
* Front camera support
* Video editing support in the Gallery application.
There are also LOTS of other, smaller but extremely useful, changes and improvements, including color schemes, support for home screen wallpaper and animated background (sine waves), modified button colors, sound effects for e.g. closing an application (swipe down) or when you receive a file via Bluetooth or when downloading a file finishes, the web browser can now be set to remember passwords, custom emoticon themes can now be installed for messages, in Contacts you can choose to "Prefer nicknames", web feeds can be shown in Notifications, Camera now supports self-timer (2 or 10 secs) and grid, Music player accepts podcasts and audio books and can create playlists and delete audio files, Calendar has a live icon by default (showing day number), and more... Widgets - another widget system for Harmattan |

Widgets by Lucien XU aims to be another widget system for Harmattan. It is designed to be universal and to mimic any existing widgets interface. Maemo 5 look is supported at the moment, but HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz and others will come in future versions.

 A new version of EmuMaster 0.2.1 has been released providing support for landscape mode and MegaDrive/MegaCD emulation. Mega emulation is based on PicoDrive, but many parts have been rewritten. MegaCD emulation uses built-in MP3 decoders. Bilinear filtering is now supported - added as an option, default off. It has no visible impact on performance (1 fps drop at most).

 A new update 2.4.1 of the WeTab OS system software has been released providing the following changes:
- Upgrade to kernel version 3.2 with support for more external devices
- Optimized power settings functionalities

Developer edition of MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan 1.2 beta will be released shortly to developers with the Nokia N950 Developer Device. The goal of this early access release is to enable developers to verify that their applications do not exhibit any regressions in the new platform version. This release will be available as a one-click-flasher for Nokia N950 Developer Device. Consumer release of PR1.2 for the Nokia N9 will be released at a later date. Read more @ Nokia Developer.

Samsung merging Bada with Tizen |
|
 Samsung is working on merging its own Bada platform with Tizen (both are Linux based). It's not yet known when it will happen, but the work is already in progress. Tizen will support software created using the Bada SDK and will also get backwards compatibility with existing Bada applications. In the future, software development tools and APIs will be the same for both Bada and Tizen.
Samsung's plans are to keep shipping Bada on feature phones and low-end smartphones, and use Tizen on higher-end smartphones. At least one or two Tizen-based devices from Samsung are expected to come out this year.

SDL and PyGame available for MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan |
|
Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) is now available for the Nokia N9. SDL is a cross-platform multimedia library, presenting a simple low-level interface to the platform's audio, input, OpenGL ES, and 2D video framebuffer facilities. It allows easy porting of existing SDL games to Nokia N9.
The packages can be installed from the Platform SDK and Nokia Apps repositories. As is the case of other packages in the Nokia Apps repository, applications submitted to Ovi Store are allowed to depend on them. Therefore, you can submit your SDL games to the Ovi Store.
In addition to the native C-language SDL library, also the the PyGame Python bindings are now available.

Tizen source code and SDK preview now available |
|
A set of pre-release tools to give application developers an early look at Tizen has just been made available. These tools, together with their corresponding documentation and source code, will provide developers with information required to become familiar with Tizen development.
This is a very early preview and is not yet designed for use to create production applications. Further enhancements and improvements to Tizen and its development environment will continue over the coming months.
Made available today is the following:
- Tizen source code preview: Operating system source code, including middleware, basic UI, and menu interface
- Tizen SDK preview: SDK & APIs: Web IDE, Emulator, Web API documentation, and Toolchain.
This preview is intended for developers to review and provide feedback on Tizen, through the following channels:
